Sky Renewables SARL (the “Sky Fund”) is the flagship core+ fund managed by Octopus Energy Generation ("OEGEN"). OEGEN sources, invests in and actively manages a range of utility scale and distributed renewable energy assets and platforms.
The Sky Fund invests in renewable energy assets in four core markets, including North America. We are looking for a Head of Assets, US to lead utility-scale asset management in the USA for the Sky Fund on its existing operational and in-construction portfolio (currently c. 200 MW solar PV / 200 MWh storage) consisting of three assets.
The Head of Assets, US would be focused on delivering the optimal performance and profitability of Sky’s renewable energy investments through ultimate oversight of the full-service Third-Party Asset Manager and Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Provider, as well as feeding lessons learned into the investment decision process. This position would be hired as a 1099 contractor initially, with the possibility of converting to full-time W-2 employment in the future. This position would report into the OEGEN US team (based in NY) and directly to the Portfolio Asset Manager in the UK. We will accept fully remote work options. There will be customary business travel as required to the OEGEN New York headquarters in midtown and asset sites (currently California, Ohio, Pennsylvania). The Third-Party Asset Manager scope includes ownership of financial reporting/compliance, technical monitoring and regulatory compliance as outlined below.
What you'll do

Drive the performance of the Sky Fund’s existing North American portfolio, helping to ensure asset investments achieve relevant performance and financial targets, and providing recommendations for value-enhancing strategies.

Coordinate with the wider OEGEN internal asset management, platform, funds finance and health and safety teams based out of London, but work independently to achieve asset objectives.

Manage the onboarding of newly acquired assets from deal completion into the long-term operational framework, working with the investments team to transition key relationships from the sellers to Sky, onboard asset data into OEGEN’s internal asset management system, and onboard new third party providers where relevant.

Lead relationship with third-party technical and commercial providers - including the Third Party Asset Manager, operations and maintenance providers, scheduling coordinators, independent system operators, construction companies, professional services firms – to ensure providers operate to required levels through relevant governance and contractual frameworks.

Ensure compliance with all covenants, reporting deadlines, and financial requirements stipulated in project-level debt agreements (e.g., loan agreements) and all tax equity structures.

Review monthly and quarterly operational and P&L reports to understand key value drivers and potential cost savings. Provide recommendations to ensure accurate reporting to internal and external parties. This includes cross referencing financial reports, operating reports, offtake invoices and market reports for consistency.

Lead on the annual budgeting process for internal and external stakeholders.

Manage the third party tax compliance and audit services providers to ensure federal and state tax filings, and audited financial accounts are delivered to counterparties according to schedule.

Ensure adherence to all contractual obligations across various agreements including PPAs, market operators, interconnection, land / easement agreements, operating agreements, finance agreements and tax equity agreements.

Work with the third-party asset manager to maintain the risk monitoring framework so as to identify any issues early and resolve them in a timely fashion.·

Feed back lessons learned to internal stakeholders.
What you'll need

4-7 years of prior experience as an asset owner, at an infrastructure asset manager, developer, or similar company.

Strong understanding of the energy markets in North America (prioritizing PJM and CAISO) and the unique challenges of renewable energy project ownership.

Excellent communication and presentation skills, particularly for presenting analysis and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders, and translating technical information for non-technical teams.

Use of analytical tools and risk management techniques to identify quality and performance issues.

Deep understanding of key commercial and technical project contracts.

Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines on project manage multiple activities simultaneously.

Able to critically examine and question information from a variety of sources.

An ability to understand risks, reach a balanced appraisal of probability and severity and communicate risk mitigation strategies.

Commercial mindset, able to understand and communicate the impact of commercial positions on investments and the potential to own increasing degrees of decision making over time.

Compensation
You would be engaged as a 1099 contractor with the opportunity to earn a base retainer equal to $100,000-125,000 per year, with potential for a bonus tied to KPIs. You will work on a flexible schedule with resources provided to you by the contracting company. Third party expenses, including travel and IT, will be covered under an expense policy.
