Position	Engineering Specialist
Reporting To:	Director of Engineering

Eclipse Power Ltd are an OFGEM licenced Electricity Independent Distribution Network Operator (IDNO) working within the UK energy industry. We design, own, operate and maintain extra high, high and low voltage electricity distribution network assets. Providing power connections to residential, industrial, renewable and commercial customers across the UK. Job Purpose:

The Engineering Specialist is the senior technical authority within the engineering function, providing specialist engineering expertise across electricity distribution and transmission-connected projects.

The role supports the Director of Engineering in delivering strategic and operational objectives while providing technical leadership, assurance and guidance across complex engineering projects.

The role will have particular responsibility for specialist engineering activities including protection systems, earthing design, transmission-level connections and complex network design assurance. The Engineering Specialist will act as a subject matter expert for internal stakeholders, customers, Independent Connection Providers (ICPs), consultants, DNOs and design partners.

Main responsibilities will include:

• Provide specialist technical support and guidance across LV, HV, EHV and transmission-connected projects.

• Lead technical assurance and review of complex network, protection, earthing and primary plant designs.

• Support the approval and adoption process for new electricity networks submitted by ICPs and developers.

• Act as technical lead for engineering policies, standards and design governance.

• Review and develop engineering standards, procedures and technical guidance documents.

• Provide technical support and mentoring to Network Design Engineers and Senior Design Engineers.

• Support the Director of Engineering with strategic planning, technical risk management and business improvement initiatives.

• Interface with DNOs, National Grid, developers, ICPs and consultants on technical matters.

• Support the investigation and resolution of complex engineering and operational issues.

• Participate in technical audits, compliance reviews and lessons learned activities.

• Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, industry standards, engineering recommendations and company policies.

• Support supplier and design house management activities, providing technical oversight where required.

• Maintain awareness of emerging technologies, regulatory developments and industry best practice.

Knowledge and Skills requirements:

Essential:

• 8+ years’ experience within electricity distribution or transmission engineering.

• Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering.

• Significant experience in HV and EHV network design and engineering assurance.

• Demonstrable expertise in at least one specialist discipline such as protection engineering, earthing design, primary plant design or transmission connections.

• Strong understanding of electricity network adoption processes.

• Knowledge of DNO, IDNO and transmission network requirements.

• Experience reviewing and approving third-party engineering designs.

• Strong understanding of engineering risk management and technical governance.

• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

• Ability to influence technical decisions and provide credible expert advice.

Desirable:

• Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards chartership.

• Experience of transmission-connected projects (132kV and above).

• Knowledge of protection coordination studies and earthing system modelling.

• Experience supporting regulatory and compliance audits.
